‘19 Kids & Counting’: A Duggar Says Yes (Season 13, Episode 1 Recap)
Michelle Duggar tells us that things can’t stay the same forever.
We are introduced to Ben Seewald, Jessa’s new courtship partner. Jessa is the first daughter to court. Ben is driving down the street, and we get lots of views of this. I can only imagine what filming this was like.
Michelle describes courtship to us. It involves a lot of protecting Jessa’s heart (and parental supervision).
Ben is 18, and his dad looks like Steve Carell. He does auto glass repair and goes to community college.
Ben and Jessa communicate only through group texts that involve the Duggar parents. Ben shows up to talk to Jim Bob and Michelle in a teeny tiny office. He has a big question. He wants to know if he can court Jessa officially.
Jim Bob gives permission for Ben to ask Jessa to court in front of them. Jessa says that she and Ben have known each other for five months and have been very good friends for one month.
Jim Bob records Ben asking her, and it’s so awkward. It’s so quiet. They can’t touch, so there’s no hug. It’s . . . my nightmare.
