6 Ways to Find Inspiration to Write

I cannot tell you how often I feel stuck writing. In fact, I’ve felt stuck the last couple weeks (and have been publishing less because of it). You probably already know that you can’t simply wait for a muse, for inspiration to strike — though how great would it be if that’s how it really worked?

You have to write even when you aren’t inspired. Or you have to seek out inspiration. Actively.

Here are a few ways you can do exactly that.

1) Revisit Your Journals & Notes

Every once in a while, I like to revisit my own notes and journals from the past. I write down titles, ideas, and observations all the time, but I forget about them. If I do not revisit those notes, I totally forget about them. Even if you don’t write things down on paper, your phone could be a great source of inspiration.

2) Watch YouTube

In the span of 10 minutes, you can watch videos about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, living in cage homes in Hong Kong, and applying setting powder under your eyes. Every video you watch can inspire a story or article.

3) Write Down Overheard Conversations
