A Few Things You Should Do in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is definitely one of my favorite travel destinations. The first time I went, I stayed just one night. the second time, we stayed for four days — plenty of time to see a lot but definitely still not enough.

Thankfully, I learned enough about Amsterdam to know what to recommend to other people

What I Did in Amsterdam

Canal Cruise — One of the first things we did on my second trip to Amsterdam was take a canal cruise through the city. The tour was okay and provided a good way to learn the city’s setup and history. It really helped us get our bearings and understand how to get around.

Rijksmuseum — This Dutch national art museum boasts more than 8,000 pieces of art and historical artifacts. I loved the museum, but it was so big that there was no way we could have seen it all in one visit. We saw some amazing pieces by Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Van Gogh. I recommend a visit, but I also recommend starting at the “Hall of Fame” and then exploring any time periods that speak to you.

Van Gogh Museum — The Vincent Van Gogh Museum houses the world’s largest collection of the artist’s work. I have always liked Van Gogh, so the museum featuring 200 paintings and 400 drawings was a must-see for me. I liked the museum, but I have to admit that it’s really only a good choice for people who are big fans of Van Gogh. My boyfriend wasn’t the biggest fan, and I can kind of see why.
