I’ve been working on getting Chat GPT to write money diaries in the style of Refinery29, with interesting results. This week, we travel to Gilbert, Arizona, to meet a marketing coordinator who makes $60,000 per year and spends some of her money on . . . a pancake flight.

Money Diary: A Week In Gilbert, AZ, On A $60,000 Salary

Occupation: Marketing Coordinator | Age: 29 | Location: Gilbert, AZ | Salary: $60,000 | Paycheck Amount (2x/month): $1,800

Day 1: Sunday

Woke up around 8:00 am and grabbed a coffee from Bergies Coffee Roast House. Their dark roast is the best way to start a day. ($5)

Went for a morning walk around Freestone Park with my dog, Benny.

Got back home and cooked some avocado toast with scrambled eggs.

Drove to SanTan Village for some retail therapy. Bought a new summer dress and a pair of earrings from H&M. ($45)

Grabbed lunch from Zinburger. Opted for the Zinburger with sweet potato fries. ($18)

Watched “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” on Amazon Prime. I’m on season 3 and am absolutely hooked.

Read a few chapters from “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern before bedtime.

Daily Total: $68

Okay, Bergies is super good but I just gave them a Google and found out THEY CLOSED LAST YEAR. So sad! Also notable, this is the first Money Diary ChatGPT has written for me without specific times and vague times of day.

So far, each Money Diary GPT has written for me has included mention of avocado toast.

I also want to note that my first explorations with these Money Diaries included very few details. I specifically asked GPT-4 to tell me what books, movies, and TV shows the diarists were enjoying.

Day 2: Monday

Usual routine: Coffee from my Keurig and a light breakfast of Greek yogurt and granola.

Headed to work at a small marketing agency downtown.
