How I’ve Worked From Home For 11 Years
I don’t know how many times I’ve been reminded in the last month that we are currently living in “uncertain” times. Even those who already work from home have found that things are just different now. If you are somebody who has just started working from home, you might still be finding your groove.
I’ve worked from home for 11 years, and while I’m constantly adjusting, I feel like there are certainly ways you can improve your flow for better efficiency or even for your state of mind.
These are the things I keep in mind each day for better success as an at-home worker.
You need to get dressed. Getting dressed helps me feel refreshed. It reminds me that I’m working. It’s nice to work in your pajamas every once in a while, but it’s not sustainable for me.
You may need to adjust. Don’t beat yourself up if you are struggling to adjust to your “new normal.” You may need more time than others to find routine, and that’s fine. I’m making adjustments to my own schedule over a decade after I began.
When possible, work in a designated area at a designated time. I have an office where I do most of my work, though admittedly I will occasionally bring my laptop to the couch or bed to do a little extra reading. Try not to work somewhere you typically reserve for relaxing though.
