I Read the ‘Sister Wives’ Book: Part 1 — Kody Explains It All
We begin with a prologue, written by none other than Kody Brown. What, you thought this book about being sister wives wouldn’t start with a statement from Kody?
He details sitting in the grand ballroom of the Beverly Hills Hilton awaiting an announcement of fall television lineups. Kody, a man who grew up on a ranch in rural Wyoming, never thought he’d be getting his makeup done for TV.
We get our first hint that Kody loves to shock people with the big reveal. He tells his stylist, “I’m a polygamist and I have four wives.”
In the book, Kody wants to introduce us to “the real face of polygamy.” He brings up the elephant in the room, Warren Jeffs and the FLDS. Kody reassures us that he belongs to a different community with a different set of values than the FLDS.
So, what do they believe? They consider themselves a more liberal branch of Mormon fundamentalism, and they accept the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a valid faith. They follow the same scripture but vary in that they believe in “the principle,” otherwise known as the Doctrine of Celestial Plural Marriage.
If you’ve seen Big Love, you kinda have an idea of how the Browns work.
