I Read the ‘Sister Wives’ Book: Part 13 — The Browns on TV
We begin in Chapter 14, written by Janelle. She says it was easy to be a mainstream Mormon in Utah, and she realized this after converting to fundamentalism. She became an outsider living in a culture of fear.
Janelle says she was nervous about exposing her family but also enthusiastic. She told her supervisors at work ahead of time and found that HR was relatively open-minded as long as she didn’t mention where she worked.
The church community Janelle was part of wasn’t thrilled with the TLC show. She claims that the promo for the show was aired after Big Love had just filmed a “sensationalized version” of the temple ceremony. Is she talking about Barb, her mom, and her sister going to the temple? Because otherwise I have no idea what she’s talking about.
Janelle says that thanks to being on TV, she was confronted with the other marriages more often, and it was easier to compare herself to the others. Robyn’s honeymoon was one example. She says she doesn’t care to see how Kody and the other wives interact as a personal boundary.
She talks about the move to Las Vegas, saying that the show came out in September and by November, they felt they needed to move. Her kids were very upset. Personally, them talking about moving always takes me back to the scene with Meri…
