I Read the ‘Sister Wives’ Book: Part 3 — A Second Wife Enters the Ring
Wife #2 Janelle begins by describing her childhood growing up in Bountiful, Utah as part of the LDS church. Her father died when she was young, and her stepfather was not a very hands-on dad. She hoped that when she got married, her husband would be a more interactive and engaged father.
Janelle says that she met a guy named Adam and was taken by him. She realized that he was a member of the a polygamist family. She invited him to the LDS church and he converted. They began courting and got married, but Janelle soon realized that her husband wasn’t a very spiritual person after all.
Janelle thought of her husband’s family as a novelty. They were the polygamists that she knew. She and Adam separated after six months of marriage, but she remained close with his sister . . . Meri.
Janelle knew Meri when Meri and Kody were just dating. She went to a party at the family’s house and met Kody for the first time. She felt “relief and recognition” when she met him. Though she was in the middle of a divorce, she and Adam attended Meri and Kody’s wedding together.
Kody says he and Meri remained good friends with Janelle after her divorce. They would all go out together, and they had good conversation. He also liked that Janelle was so focused on her career…
