It’s time to meet Christine. Christine was raised in polygamy. In fact, her grandpa was the head of their church. When she turned 17, Christine decided she wanted to be a sister wife. She developed a strong testimony for plural marriage.

Christine always wanted to be a third wife. She wasn’t super interested in the monogamous stage of a relationship. She thought the role of first wife involved too much self-sacrifice. The second wife “disrupts” the marriage, which results in an emotional struggle. She believed that the third wife would come in and make peace.

When Christine was 19, her sister went on a “survival trek” through the church. Meri and Kody were the group leaders, and they were still newlyweds. Christine says she later realized that she knew Meri but “no one had noticed her until she married Kody.” Christine caught a glimpse of Kody later and instantly thought he was cute.

Kody says he thought Christine was cute at first, but he wasn’t ready to consider a second wife. He and Janelle were still mere acquaintances at this point. He says that Christine was always “adorable and upbeat.” He says that eventually Christine became one of Meri’s “closest friends.”
