“Keith and the Girl” Is the Best Podcast You Aren’t Listening To
Keith and the Girl, or KATG, is one of the longest running podcasts — and yet you might not have ever heard of it. What began as a humble show featuring a couple talking about their daily lives has since become a successful comedy podcast hosted by two friends.
The first episode launched on March 7, 2005. In that first episode, Chemda Khalili and Keith Malley discussed turning their roommate’s old bedroom into a podcast studio, beginning a fitness routine, and making parents cry by publishing life stories online.
In its early days, the show featured phone calls from friends and listeners. Gossip Thursdays brought in a special guest to discuss celebrity news. Once a week, the duo would call Dina to answer relationship and life questions. Keith and Chemda were unrestrained in their discussions of current events and personal stories, many of which involved Keith quitting jobs or reminiscing about his days as a server.
The first time I saw the show in the news was in relation to thesimpsonsmovie.com, a domain Keith owned and was “asked” to give up. Keith and Chemda recorded an episode on the day the news broke titled 542: The Simpsons Movie.
