Food on Film, or Let’s Talk About the Sorbet From The Princess Diaries

I have had a hunch for a long time that was recently confirmed: I’m not the only one who still thinks about the green sorbet from The Princess Diaries.
If you don’t remember the scene in which Princess Mia eats green sorbet, I don’t believe you. But watch this video in which the official Disney website calls it a “frozen dinner item.”
I know I’m not the only one tho thinks about the sorbet because somebody wrote a recipe for it. While the recipe describes the sorbet as mint, I had always envisioned it as more of a lime-based flavor. But now I’m even more intrigued.
And then, somebody wrote this, which describes the author’s own harrowing journey with a mint sorbet of their own.
I don’t know why I find this scene randomly popping up in my head from time to time. It could be because I loved Anne Hathaway’s makeover scene or because I loved Mandy Moore. But in spite of my love for the books, Michael Moskovitz, and Princess Mia’s clothes, it is this scene that always sticks out.
The truth is that food scenes in movies stand out to me often. I love the colors of food on screen, I love to imagine flavors. It’s all candy for my eyes.
It’s just like how I’ll never forget the cake-eating scene from Matilda. Or all the scenes from Ratatouille. The cartons of Chinese food on Gilmore Girls. Or every candy apple every portrayed in film. The coffee shots on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. The pizza in Eat Pray Love.
I love to see the slick grease on top of a slice of pepperoni. I want to see the stringy cheese when the character pulls away from the piece of pizza. I could study the patterns of seeds in kiwi.
Food, no matter how insignificant to the story, is always so important to me. What food scenes stand out most to you?
