Retro Romance Recap: Frozen Enchantment by Jessica Steele
Jolene is having a case of the Mondays. Or at least this is what the book wants you to think.
In reality, her boss is an asshole. He’s the “office wolf,” if you will. He sexually harasses and even assaults Jolene. His wife walks in him “accidentally” touching Jolene. For a few moments, I was afraid this guy was going to be the love interest. Spoiler, he’s not.
Flashback. We learn that this is not the first time Jolene has had a terrible boss. She was assaulted as a teenager by her boss and she’s still living with trauma caused by the incident.
Jolene is sitting in the car outside her job. She decides to quit but ultimately says she’s not going to give into “pride.” I’m pretty sure it’s okay to stop working with somebody who harasses you.
Fortunately, there’s another option. One of the bosses gets on Jolene for not being as “adaptable” as she used to be. However, when she reveals that she can speak Russian, she’s got a new job.
But first, Mr. Welsh harasses Jolene in front of the chairman of the company, Mr. Cheyne Templeton. After she is judged for being the victim of harassment by her new boss, she heads out to Russia. Not before we’re reminded that she doesn’t have the face for engineering work, of course.
