Should You Become a Remote Scorer for Pearson?

It’s almost test scoring season again. That means a lot of companies, including Pearson, will be hiring remote scorers to assess exam answers. I worked as a remote scorer for two testing seasons. Here’s what I found.

Every Project Is Different

One thing to remember is that each project you score will provide a different experience. Your managers, your schedule, and the scoring guidelines can all make a difference.

As a result, you need to read all your documentation carefully and really think about what the scoring process will look like. For example, I found that I really dislike scoring spoken responses. I was able to move through written responses more quickly.

Training Is the Most Frustrating Part

I really struggled with training because it required everybody to be present virtually at the same time. Dozens of people in the same class, all with a variety of questions and technical issues. Some people in training had little experience using a computer, which made the process more difficult.

Ultimately, you’ll spend a lot of time waiting for training to be over, and it’s hard to absorb any information with so many small issues popping up. Really, training would be easier for everybody if they…
