Should You Use a Pen Name?
I have a somewhat unique name. I mean, there are plenty of other people with my name in the world, but not that many.
I do use a pen name for some of my writing. It provides some anonymity, especially for certain topics I want to open up about without members of my family associating them with me.
There have also been times where people have decided to look up my personal social media based on things I’ve written. I don’t see those messages because I don’t look at my message requests.
Using a pen name does not mean you don’t stand by what you say. It does not mean you lack confidence in your writing. I think using a pen name can actually be quite empowering in many ways.
Ultimately, do what you want. You can use a pen name, you can use your real name, or you can do what I do and split your writing. You’ll be fine either way.
