A few months ago, my boyfriend and I were searching for an apartment. Every apartment manager asked to hold onto our IDs before we looked at the models, which made me curious. Just how dangerous is this kind of job?

Very, it turns out.

According to Psychology Today, real estate professionals face a significant risk when they show homes to strangers. Every meeting with a client means trusting somebody new.

In the past, so many real estate agents have gone about the day as usual, only to come face to face with somebody who has bad intentions. These are some of those cases.

Sarah Anne Walker

On July 8, 2006, Sarah Anne Walker’s body was found in a Texas model home by a couple coming to view it. She’d been beaten, stabbed, bitten, and robbed of her jewelry.

Police arrested Kosoul Chanthakoummane for Sarah’s murder thanks to DNA-related discoveries. He’d seemingly been targeting real estate agents he could rob. At the time of the murder, he was on parole for stealing a car at gunpoint in North Carolina and was living in North Texas with family.

During Kosoul’s trial, jurors heard about DNA evidence placing him in the model home. While Kosoul admitted to being at the home, he reported that his car broke down…
