The Scary World of Romance Scams

If you have ever watched 90 Day Fiance, Catfish, or Dr. Phil, you have surely seen somebody desperately in love with somebody who sought only to scam them. Some of the people in these shows are desperate for love, and some are willing to put up money in the hopes it will lead to a great love.

Shows like Dr. Phil may be exploitative, but I also feel like they might shed light on romance scams that regular people can become the victims of.

How Do Romance Scams Work?

Scammers come in all varieties. Often, somebody receives a generic message from a stranger. They may claim they are currently working in, visiting, or living in another country at the moment. They may have an accent that does not match up with their story about where they come from.
