The Way You Talk To Yourself Sucks

For so many of us, the negative self-talk is constant. Most of us tend to go through periods where we are down on ourselves. With so many of us social distancing and self-quarantining right now, those negative thoughts may emerge more often than they used to.

That’s so how many things work. Once you think you have a handle on things, something tests you.

So many of us talk ourselves out of being confident. I’ve been doing that my entire life.

There is a good chance you might be spending a lot of time alone in the coming weeks. If you feel socially disconnected, don’t pick on yourself.

We think we have so many reasons to hate ourselves, but we should know by now that hating ourselves does not help. We’ve hated ourselves before, and it didn’t help. What if you really tried to be kind?

There is no doubt that positive self talk is difficult. It is something you have to actively engage in, and you have to learn to quiet your mind to the negative feedback.

Four years ago this week, I was alone in England for the first time. If I had listened to the voice in my head saying, “You’re going to fail. Go back home,” I would have missed out on so many amazing experiences. My entire life today would be so different if I had listened to that voice.

I often wonder how much different my life could look right now if I hadn’t listened to the voice. It’s not good to linger on that, but I do like to use it as motivation.
