1836 — New York City sex worker Helen Jewett is murdered. A man named Richard P. Robinson was acquitted in the case.

1959 — Leonard Shockley, a 17-year-old black teenager, is executed in a gas chamber after a murder. He was the last juvenile executed in the United States.

1984 — Richard Ramirez murders Mei Leung, 9, in San Francisco.
