1966 — Charles Whitman stabs his mother and wife to death before taking weapons to the observation deck on top of a tower at the University of Texas at Austin. He kills 14 people and injures 31 others. He was shot and killed at the scene.

1991 — Actress Hedy Lamarr is arrested for shoplifting at age 77.
