1979 — A murder victim is found at the intersection of Sahara and Las Vegas Boulevard, near the Sahara Hotel. She is known as Sahara Sue, and her identity remains unknown.

1980 — Dorothy Stratten is murdered by her estranged husband, Paul Snider. Dorothy was a model and Playmate of the Year when she was killed. Snider also died by suicide the same day.
