1968 — Barbara Jane Mackle is kidnapped at age 20. She was sick and staying with her mother in a Decatur, Georgia hotel. A man knocked on the door and claimed to be the police. Gary Krist and Ruth Eisemann-Schier attacked the women and forced Barbara into their car. They put her in a box that contained a lamp, air pump, and food, and buried her. They demanded $500,000. She was rescued and the men were arrested.

2013 — Heather Elvis disappears after returning home from a first date while trying to get over married ex-boyfriend Sidney Moorer. His wife, Tammy, had learned of his affair and had confronted Elvis via text. The Moorers have been charged with murder, fraud, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and indecent exposure. In 2017, the murder trial resulted in a hung jury. Tammy and Sidney Moorer were found guilty of kidnapping and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
