1997 — Michael Lee Lockhart is executed in Texas after receiving death sentences in Indiana, Florida, and Texas.
2001 — Kathleen Peterson is killed. Her death is the focus of the documentary series The Staircase. Her husband, Michael Peterson has been tried for the murder twice. In 2017, Peterson took an Alford plea. He was sentenced to time served and freed.
