1933 — An unsuccessful assassination attempt against president-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt occurs. Anton Cermak, Chicago mayor, is killed by the assailant.

1978 — Ted Bundy, then an escaped serial killer, is recaptured in Pensacola, Florida.

1991 — The body of a young woman or teenager is found in Big Coppitt Key, Florida. She had been strangled and beaten before she was left. She had multiple ear piercings, dark eyes, and brown hair. One of her tattoos, a heart on her left arm, said “love.” She may have been pregnant once. Her identity is unknown and her case is unsolved.

1992 — Fox airs the 100th episode of Cops.

1992 — Jeffrey Dahmer is determined to have been sane when he committed 15 murders. He is found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. He was killed by another inmate two years later.

2003 — The Antwerp diamond heist, the so-called “heist of the century” begins. Thieves steal a variety of gold, diamonds, and jewelry in Antwerp, Belgium. Even after the thieves were arrested, most of the stolen items have not been recovered.

2009 — Heather Strong is kidnapped and murdered in Marion County, Florida. Emilia Lily Carr is an immediate suspect because she was allegedly pregnant with Strong’s husband’s child. Carr was found guilty in 2010 and sentenced to death. In 2017, Carr was re-sentenced to life without parole. Strong’s husband, Joshua Fulgham, was also convicted of murder. He received two life sentences.
