1972 — The California Supreme Court eliminates the death penalty. It will be reinstated later.
1988 — David Brom kills his family after getting into an argument with his father about music.
2010 — A man deliberately crashes his plane into a building in Austin, Texas. He kills himself and one other person. He injures 13 other people. The perpetrator published a letter on his website expressing anger at government agencies.
2019 — Jerry Westrom is charged with second-degree murder for the 1993 death of Jeanne Ann Childs. The Minneapolis case was apparently solved with DNA obtained from a napkin tossed in the trash. It was compared to DNA data on a genealogy website.
