Today in True Crime History: February 3
1780 — Barnett Davenport committed mass murder in Connecticut. Davenport enlisted in the Army and would eventually become a boarder in a home belonging to a man named Caleb Mallory. Davenport killed Mallory, Mallory’s wife, Mallory’s daughter-in-law, and two of Mallory’s grandchildren. The case became one of the most famous crimes in early American history.
1971 — Frank Serpico, an NYPD officer, was shot during a drug bust. He survived and testified against police with evidence of widespread corruption.
1982 — John Holmes, a porn star, was called to stand trial for the Wonderland murders following a preliminary hearing.
1993 — The federal trial for four officers charged for the civil rights violations of Rodney King begins.
2003 — Actress Lana Clarkson was found dead in the home of Phil Spector, a record producer. The two met at House of Blues where Clarkson was working and went to Spector’s mansion. An hour after they arrived, Spector’s driver heard a gunshot. Spector would later claim Clarkson accidentally shot herself. In 2009, Spector was found guilty of Clarkson’s murder.
2019 — A mass shooting took place at Henry Pratt Company in Aurora, Illinois. Six people were killed and six people were injured. The perpetrator was among the deceased.
2019 — Members of the gang MS-13 killed a member of the 18th Street gang on a Queens subway platform. The event took place at two different stations and on the train.
