1848 — Belle Starr is born. She would become an infamous outlaw known to hang out with the likes of Jesse James. She was arrested several times. She would be murdered in 1889, her killer never brought to justice.

1973 — The body of a young man is found near a freeway in Wilmington, California. He’d been strangled. He has been unidentified for longer than 46 years. The victim had tooth fillings and long scars on his right leg. He is believed to be the victim of serial killer Randy Kraft.

1994 — White supremacist Byron De La Beckwith is convicted of the murder of Medgar Evers, a civil rights leader. The murder occurred in 1963. Beckwith would be sentenced to life in prison.

1999 — Boxing champion Mike Tyson is sentenced to a year in jail for assault. He would serve just over three months behind bars for assaulting two motorists after a car accident.

2014— Governor Mario Cuomo announces an intention to loosen marijuana laws in New York. He intends to allow medicinal marijuana.
