1977 — Gary Gilmore dies by firing squad after he is convicted of murder.

2008 — Denise Amber Lee is murdered by Michael King. Though there were five attempts to call 911 about the abduction, they were mishandled. Lee’s death helped establish the Denise Amber Lee Act in Florida, which would provide more training for 911 phone operators.

2019 — Ram Rahim Singh and two aides are sentenced to life in prison. They murdered a journalist who exposed sexual abuse in their spiritual organization.
