1940 — Laura Law, wife of labor leader Richard Law, is murdered in her Aberdeen, Washington house. Her case remains unsolved.

1981 — Peter Sutcliffe, a British truck driver, is arrested and later convicted of murdering 13 women. He is known as the Yorkshire Ripper.
