1911 — The Ardenwald axe murders occur. The unsolved murders near Portland, Oregon, involved victims of the Hill family. A neighbor was initially accused of the attack, but all charges were dropped.
1973 — Janice Marie Young is pushed into the path of a moving vehicle and killed. She remained unidentified until 2015, over 40 years later. Her brother helped identify her. A man was arrested for the murder, but charges against him were dropped.
2017 — Yingying Zhang is murdered. The Chinese scholar was abducted by Brendt Christensen near the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Christensen was arrested on June 30.
