1965 — During a civil rights protest, the Alabama state troopers begin beating black protesters in Selma. This day is known as “Bloody Sunday.”

1967 — Jimmy Hoffa begins a sentence of eight years in prison for jury tampering and defrauding a union. The sentence was commuted in 1971.
