1861 — John Merryman is arrested under suspension of writ of habeaas corpus. This sets the scene for a major supreme court decision.
1979 — Etan Patz disappears. He disappeared in Lower Manhattan on his way to a school bus stop at the age of 6. He was one of the first children whose pictures would be profiled on a milk carton. He was declared legally dead in 2001.
2011 — Jared Loughner, a mass shooter, is found incompetent to stand trial based on mental competency.
