1679 — The Habeas Corpus Act passes in England. This law strengthens somebody’s right to challenge an unlawful arrest.
1974 — Long Beach Jane Doe is murdered. Her body is found the next day. The person suspected of killing her was arrested in 2013, but he died in 2014. Her identity remains unknown.
