1909 — Oceana Wardlaw Martin Snead, known as Ocey, is drugged and drowned in East Orange, New Jersey. Her family perpetrated the act to collect insurance money.

1972 — Edmund Kemper’s juvenile records for murder are permanent expunged.

1987 — Shirley Anna Ellis, a 23-year-old nurse, is killed by Steven Pennell, the Route 40 Killer.

1988 — The body of Dawn Mendes is found. She had been missing since September.

1990 — The Pennsylvania State Legislature bans the use of the electric chair for execution. It approves execution by lethal injection.
