1967 — Thurgood Marshall becomes the first black member of the U.S. Supreme Court.
2002 — The Washington D.C. sniper attacks claim their first victim in the parking lot of a grocery store. The attacks would ultimately kill 10 people.
2006 — A man enters a one-room Amish school and takes hostages. He kills four girls before dying by suicide.
