2008 — Jason Hudson and Darnell Donerson are murdered in Chicago. They are the mother and brother of singer Jennifer Hudson. Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew, Julian King, was reported missing. He was later found deceased. William Balfour, the husband of Hudson’s sister, was convicted.

2014 — Luis Bracamontes opened fire on sheriff’s deputies in Northern California, killing two. An officer and a civilian were also wounded. In 2018, he was sentenced to death.
