1857 — The Mountain Meadows Massacre occurs. A group of Mormons dress up as Native Americans and murder 120 colonists in Utah.

1921 — Fatty Arbuckle, an actor from the silent film era, is arrested for the rape and murder of Virginia Rappe. He was later acquitted, but it basically ended his career.

1922 — Four masked women who belong to the “Ladies of the Invisible Eye” group lash a woman 100 times. This group has some relationship with the Ku Klux Klan.

1931 — Charles Luciano’s hitmen murder Salvatore Maranzano.

1978 — Georgi Markov dies of blood poisoning four days after he was stabbed with an umbrella tip that had been poisoned while standing at a London bus stop.

2001 — Henryk Siwiak, an immigrant to New York City from Poland, is shot and killed while looking for his new job. His murder remains unsolved. His murder is the only one recorded on September 11, 2001.

2014 — Oscar Pistorius is found not guilty of murder in the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. He is later found guilty of culpable homicide.
