1968 — Carol Jenkins, 20, is murdered in Martinsville, Indiana. The town was a “sundown town,” and she was selling encyclopedias door-to-door. While working, two white men began to follow her and shout obscenities. She received minimal help from police and went on her way to meet her co-workers. Later, two men attacked her. Her father requested the FBI investigate, but the local police refused to allow this. Kenneth Clay Richmond was arrested from a nursing home in 2002 for the murder. His daughter had apparently witnessed the murder from the back seat. Richmond never stood trial for the crime and died the same year.

1971 — Six members of the Ku Klux Klan are arrested in the bombing of 10 school buses.

2008 — Brandon McClelland, also known as “Big Boy,” is killed in Paris, Texas. The crime was deemed racially motivated.
