1983 — Danny Joe Eberle, 13, is found dead in Bellevue, Nebraska. The young paperboy had been stabbed and tortured.

1986 — Cheryl Keeton, an attorney from Portland, Oregon, is found dead in her van. Her husband was found guilty of her murder. Anne Rule based Dead by Sunset on this case.

2007 — Neveah Janey Gallegos, 3, is murdered in Denver by her mother’s boyfriend.

2011 — Troy Davis is executed in Georgia. Davis maintained his innocence in the murder of Mark MacPhail, a police officer, in 1989.
