1929 — The Bridge Murder case begins. Myrtle Adkins Bennett is on trial in Kansas City for the murder of her husband John G. Bennett. The murder apparently stemmed from a game of bridge. John apparently began slapping Myrtle after she insulted his playing in front of guests. Myrtle shot John in the back twice.
1982 — The Chicago Tylenol Murders result in a series of poisoning deaths. Seven people died in the original set of murders, and then copycat crimes led to additional deaths. This incident led to anti-tampering laws and reform for over-the-counter medications.
