Want to Become a Writer? Be Prepared to Learn These Hard Lessons
Writing is a fantastic job for the right person. As much as I love it, I may not necessarily recommend it to everybody else. If you do decide to work as a freelancer, you must be willing to learn some hard lessons.
Mistakes Are Inevitable
I proofread every post, sometimes two or three times. I look up grammar rules if I’m unsure about something. But mistakes are still going to happen. There’s probably something I missed in this article, perhaps something I could have phrased better. I don’t take mistakes personally anymore, but I used to when I expected myself to be perfect.
Clients Can Be Tricky
Every client wants something different. Sometimes the same client wants something different based on the time of day you are talking. You might be asked to make changes to work you already finished, and you need to be ready for when that time comes. Will you decline edits or keep your client? It can be a hard decision.
Time Zones Can Really Mess You Up
The client you are working with could live thousands of miles away, and that can mess up deadlines. Ensure that you establish a preferred time zone for your communication and deadlines.
