Who Is Shotgun Jane Doe?
On June 1, 1987, a resident in Knoxville, Tennessee, woke up to the sounds of three people right outside her house. A woman and two men were seemingly trying to break into a house by kicking a door.
The resident inside the home called for help, but as the woman tried to break the screen door, she became scared and shot at the figure outside. The woman died, and the two men she was with were eventually captured.
The Missing Identity
The men who picked up the unidentified women apparently said they picked her up in Greene County at a rest stop. According to some sources, the two men and woman were picked by an elderly man they then dropped him off at a rest stop. These sources say the elderly man was disoriented and received assistance. With very few sources for this case still available, it is difficult to determine the facts.
The woman inside the house the trio targeted for an alleged robbery had been robbed or fearful of a previous attempted robbery (I found articles stating both scenarios). She was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun. Many believe Jane Doe and one of the men stood on the porch, making noise as a way to trick the woman inside into opening the front door. Instead, she called 911 and eventually shot when she felt threatened.
