Who Is the Ventura County Jane Doe?

I stumbled upon the case of the Ventura County Jane Doe while researching cold cases in Ventura County. What’s fascinating about this case is that the murder isn’t necessarily a cold case. We know who did it.

We don’t know who the victim is.

At the edge of the Westlake High School parking lot in Westlake Village, somebody found a deceased woman. She’d been murdered just hours earlier on the morning of July 18, 1980.

Authorities determined Ventura County Jane Doe had been raped, stabbed 19 times, and strangled before her body was dumped. They also found she had been about five months pregnant at the time of her death.

We know little about the victim’s life. Ventura County Jane Doe had been five feet and two inches tall. NAMUS reports the victim was Hispanic or Native American and between the ages of 15 and 30. She had brown eyes and black hair with the ends dyed blonde. One of her most distinguishing features were her eyebrows, which she had shaved and penciled in. Additionally, Ventura County Jane Doe had an episiotomy scar, indicating she had likely given birth at least once before.
