A Virginia City Murder: The Legendary Julia Bulette
There is something about the quick success of boom towns that always been interesting to me. These small towns brought together so many different types of people from all over the world, which can often create a variety of high-pressure situations.
In these stories about boom towns, there is always an interesting cast of characters. Julia Bulette remains one of those fascinating people: a sex worker who was murdered, her killer brought to justice in front of the entire town.
Julia Bulette Moves to Virginia City
Juliette Bulette was said to have been born in London in 1832 (though some sources suggest she was born in Mississippi). Her family moved to New Orleans during her childhood, and Julia eventually made the choice to move out west. She spent time in California before settling in Virginia City, Nevada.
Virginia City was a boom town thanks to the Comstock Lode silver strike. This meant one thing: a town full of men looking for entertainment when the work was done. Julia saw an opportunity here, and she set up shop on North D Street.
