If you spend any time on Reddit, BabyCenter, or Dear Prudence, you will come across a boding mother-in-law figure quite quickly. These figures, usually referred to simply as MILs, are shockingly evil, or so the Internet would have you believe.

There is such a unique hatred for mothers-in-law on the Internet (though this extends into real-life as well). I believe a lot of these stories.

Some mothers are awful people. Some don’t feel as if they could ever be wrong. Others want the world to cave to their every whim, and they exert every bit of control they think they have. Some simply do not know how to deal with their children growing up.

Regardless of whether MILs are the evil villains they seem to be online, I wanted to explore some of the main reasons why they get such a bad rap. Here’s what I’ve discovered.

Is Your Mother-in-Law Trying to Crash Your Honeymoon?

Many people online say that their MIL has tried to get in on that sweet honeymoon action. And apparently a lot of sons don’t see this as a major red flag? It seems aggressively inappropriate to me to even ask to go on a honeymoon with somebody else, let alone with your child.
